Creative Writing for Beginners

Service Description

The aim of this course is to build your confidence and help you to start writing. Your tutor will encourage, support and inspire you on your journey. Poetry or prose, flash fiction or novella, Debra will guide you as you develop your own voice. Held in Debra’s studio at Grenaby Studios, Ballabeg, everything is provided to enable you to enjoy some creative therapy and much deserved ‘me time’ - time to begin your writing journey. Course outline: Who is this course designed for? Suitable for beginners and improvers, this course is for adults wishing to write for pleasure. How long will the course last? This is a 6 session course, consisting of 2 hour workshops Where will the course be held? The course is delivered at Isle be Creative, Grenaby Studios, Ballabeg, Isle of Man IM9 4 HD "What are the entry requirements? ‘Do I need to have an ‘A’ Level in English?’" No. Not at all. None whatsoever. What will you learn? You will be introduced to a variety of writing genres. You will use writing prompts and exercises to encourage and develop your skills. How will you be assessed? You will be observed during activities and offered gentle guidance. There is no accreditation for this course. What are the teaching methods? There will be a range of demonstrations and practical workshops, with a variety of samples to view. Home tasks will be given, though they are not compulsory to complete. Feedback will only be given on home tasks completed during the duration of the course How much will it cost? The cost is £180 for the 6 sessions, payable in advance. Who is the tutor? The tutor is an established community arts specialist, professional artist and writer, with many years experience of teaching and mentoring others. Debra holds a BA (Hons) IS 3D Animation, Illustration & Creative Writing, 16+ PGCE, PGDipPD and Public Liability Insurance.
