My Vision

Hello,  welcome to my vision.

My name is Debra Tracey and I am a community artist/educator. My aim is to provide an inclusive service of quality creative activities.

From small private courses or regular weekly group sessions to large community projects, my focus is on making each participant feel happier, healthier and more confident.

Experience

I had believed my art teacher at school when she told me I'd 'never make it in the art world' so started my work life as an office junior, moving up to become a PA then, after being made redundant, joined my mother's business which was specialist celebration cakes. Back then in the 80s, we had some successes, being a supplier of fabulous cakes for the BBC and even appearing on the People Today programme.

It was during this time that I realised I had creative skills and was able to pass them on to my students so when we closed our business in 1994 I decided to ignore my art teacher's words and take my creativity more seriously.

I received my BA(Hons) IS degree in 3D Illustration, Animation and Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, as a mature student, then obtained my post 16 PGCE and PGDip in Personal Development (Inclusive Education) soon after.

In my second year of Uni, I started teaching part time in adult education but it was when I began working with adults with learning difficulties and vulnerable adults that I realised I had a real passion for inclusive education.

I soon progressed into a full time role, responsible for up to 32 members of staff across various curriculum areas.

With years of experience working with community groups, mental health organisations and sheltered housing associations, when I left to set up my own business, it was natural for me to continue using my skills for the benefit of similar groups.

I received an award from Manchester City Council for services to education and an award from Macclesfield and Wilmslow Business awards, for work in the community.

Having worked with many hospitals, schools, mental health charities, BUPA and various care homes, I have been able to identify and develop a line of 'creative therapy' programmes which are then tweaked to meet your specific needs.

I pride myself on my attention to detail and my ability to engage 'hard to reach' participants.
